A Chat with La Commune Cafe and Bookstore
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Our expert buying team scours high and low to find the best used books to offer to the public. We have something for everyone: cookbooks, novels, kids’ books, music, gardening, poetry, history, and more! And because we’re worker-owned we take extra pride in everything we do.
Of the products you sell, which are your favorites?
La Commune loves cookbooks, gardening, poetry, politics, philosophy, art, kids’ books, history, religion, do-it-yourself projects—and these are only some of our many sections! The greatest thing about an old-fashioned bookstore is coming in and browsing; you never know what you’ll find!
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
La Commune was founded by a group of people with decades of experience in the book business who wanted to try something new: a collective where the workers make the decisions about running the store. We believe this makes a better bookstore and hope you will agree!
What do you love most about your job?
We love working together to make the best bookstore we can. Every day brings new books, so you never know what you’re going to find at La Commune, and that’s the way we feel about it too!
