On Sunday, August 26, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., the historical Vibiana opens its doors to host the LA Epicurean Festival. Built in 1876 as a cathedral, the venue transforms into a hub for LA vendors of gourmet food and spirits, with displays from exhibitors such as Santa Monica Seafood, La Dolce Vita Gourmet, and High Roller Spirits. Visitors sample from of more than 500 boutique cheeses, meats, chocolates, and other snacks or sip wines under the tutelage of onsite oenologists. For tips on how to create such gourmet fare, they can stop by the cooking and mixology demonstrations. During the first session, the Epicurean Cup, pits teams of four against each other to craft meals from a basket of mystery ingredients or, for an extra challenge, from the basket itself. Strains of live music waft from performers such as French-born guitarist and singer Nathalie Alice, and a portion of the ticket sales benefit local charities.
LA Epicurean Festival
The annual LA Epicurean Festival unites local vendors and connoisseurs for a day of feasting on boutique eats and libations. Attendees sample gourmet meat, cheese, and chocolate from several hundred exhibitors as they groove to live music and cheer for their favorite chefs in culinary competitions. Cooking and mixology demonstrations divulge the secrets to creating restaurant-quality meals at home, which can finally give a purpose to that framed health-inspector rating adorning the dining-room wall.
