Chef Adil Fawzi knows French cooking. After completing his formal training at Parisian culinary schools and apprenticing under renowned French chefs, Fawzi brought his passion to New York and helped found two restaurants—Marche du Sud and Bistro 61—dedicated to serving rustic, yet refined Provençal cuisine. At La Frite, he narrows his focus down to one comfort food in particular: traditional European-style french fries. A late-night hunt through Greenwich Village for the perfect french fry left Chef Fawzi unsatisfied, so he decided to co-found a small shop dedicated to soothing hunger pangs until as late as 4 a.m.
Diners have two choices: thick-cut, Belgian-style fries or thinner, crispy shoestring fries. Orders of the freshly cut, naturally gluten-free fries get scooped into paper cones, making them an easy option for eating on the go or tricking friends who asked for a sno-cone. Before leaving, customers can choose to pair their fries with one of the 15 available sauces. Classic ketchup and malt vinegar are available, although La Frite also features specialty options, including mayonnaises flavored with everything from harissa to soy, wasabi, and ginger. The menu includes a vegetarian option, soup, and organic sliders made using grass-fed beef.
