The Monterey Jazz Festival is the longest continually-running jazz festival in the world, a celebration of the genre so renowned it's taken to sending its Grammy-winning musicians on the road every year to meet the demand for its groundbreaking music. This year, San Diego jazz fans can expect to see such stellar players as guitarist and scat singer Raul Midon, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane (son of John), fiery bassist Joe Sanders, and the virtuosic trumpeter Nicholas Payton. You'll also hear the smooth and silky jazz of pianist Gerald Clayton, who is also the program's musical director. Whether soloing or playing in unison, these Monterey Jazz Festival stalwarts will bring the fest's joyful, fun and rich performances to the Balboa Theatre.
