What You'll Get
Soprano Zen Wu, mezzo-soprano Latifah Smith and tenor Brandon Elan Thibeault lend their stellar voices to a sure-to-be-stirring performance of Samuel Barber's Prayers of Kierkegaard, based partly on a Gregorian chant. This La Jolla Symphony & Chorus concert kicks off with the winter-themed The Light That Fills the World, by this season's featured composer, 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winner John Luther Adams. You'll also hear a world-premiere commission by Israeli Ori Talmon, plus Aaron Copland's post-WWII Symphony No. 3, with its gorgeous Fanfare for the Common Man. Maestro Steven Schick wields the baton for this 61st-season event at Mandeville Auditorium.
There’s a pre-concert lecture by Schick beginning one hour prior to the show.
