The Other WNBA
The Women’s National Basketball Association, or WNBA, got into a naming battle with another WNBA: the Wyoming Natural Beekeepers Association. According to its website, the Wyoming Natural Beekeepers Association is “a hive of like-minded individuals committed to bee-ing the state’s #1 source of natural bees and bee-related puns.”
The Wyoming beekeepers met the WNBA at an Internet cafe to discuss the basketball-WNBA’s unclear stance on puns and open hostility to bees attending games. Their differences were resolved when the basketball-WNBA threatened to stop stocking honey at the Official Condiment Bar of the WNBA, and the beekeepers agreed to change the name of their association to the “WN_Bee_A,” thus preserving their pronunciation while adding a valuable pun.
