What You'll Get
Last year, Elvis Costello returned to his hometown of Liverpool for an epic, 100-minute musical journey through his vast songbook. Liverpool's a bit far from L.A., and you can't go back in time, but you can still be in the audience for this concert of a lifetime when Laemmle Playhouse 7 screens the concert film for Pasadena audiences. It's a show like no other, set in a 1960s-style living room with an oversized television broadcasting never-seen-before family photographs and portraits of Costello's personal heroes, from Gloria Grahame to Arthur Askey. Moving between guitars and piano, Costello digs deep into his catalogue. Breakthrough songs like "Watching The Detectives" are performed alongside rarities such as "45." Costello is also joined by his special guests Rebecca and Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe for a barnstorming rendition of "Pads, Paws and Claws," a song co-written with Paul McCartney. In between songs Costello treats the audience to stories about his family and the origins of his music and traveling life.
