Lake Anna Winery

Lake Anna Winery was once a farm in the Spotsylvania countryside. Its transformation began in the 1980s, when owner Bill Heidig took a trip to France, and noticed that the country's grape-growing regions reminded him of home. When he returned stateside, Bill and his wife decided to start growing grapes themselves. They started with more than 2,000 vines, and after research and some careful tending, the plants flourished—a few years later, their fledgling vineyard sprawled across 10 acres.

With all those grapes, the turn to wine-making was only natural for the Heidigs. They converted their barn—originally built for dairy cows and their butter-sculpture furniture—into a winery in 1990. Today, production is overseen by award-winning winemaker Graham Bell, who crafts acclaimed wines including Seyval Blanc, Chambourcin, and Spotsylvania Claret. Select bottles bear special labels depicting scenes from Civil War battles, celebrating the region's rich history with every pour.

Customer Reviews

We always love the Caribbean party at Lake Anna when we attend. The music is great and the staff is very friendly. This was the first one we've attended in the rain, and don't know if we'd do that again because it was so muddy, but we still had a great time. All others we've attended on dry ground have been fantastic!

Lake Anna Winery is always one of our favorites to go to and the Caribbean Beach Festival was GREAT!! The other wineries that were there and all of the vendors really deserve a big Thank You for staying through the thunder storm and heavy rain that started the festival but when it was over, everyone opened up their stands and the party was on. Eric and Jeff should be very proud of the venue as well as their wines and we will continue to go visit them.
