Without camping, people would only sleep outdoors when evicted by irritated bunkmates or hypnotized by a team of crafty mosquitoes. Bask in the outdoor air with today's Groupon to Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area in La Quinta. Choose between the following options:

• For $25, you get a two-night campsite tent stay with water and electrical hookups (a $50 value).
• For $35, you get a two-night RV stay with water, electrical, and sewage hookups (a $70 value).

At the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains and near the Coachella Valley, the Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area’s 710 acres house 91 individual and group campsites and a 145-acre lake. Park your tent or RV as you partake in the comfortable amenities, including picnic tables, a fire pit, and restrooms, and explore a host of recreational activities. A swimming pool treats those looking to dip, dive, and perform figure eights into liquid refreshment ($2/person), while the lake’s stocked bounty of catfish allows campers to glide, cast, and reel in their own gill-and-whisker wearing photo-op ($6/adult, $4/child and license required). For hikers and equestrians, a 3-mile circuitous trek around the lake, plus various nearby trails that cut into the mountain's foothills, grant plenty of routes to tread and leave cryptic messages in breadcrumbs.

The park's brochure and map and photo gallery supply a two-dimensional viewing of the breathtaking grounds, but come without the soul-stirring satisfaction garnered from having just assembled a tent without the use of duct tape or soldering flame.

Customer Reviews

Highly recommend an RV or an air mattress if tent camping. Sites are small and rocky. Good for fishing. Playground is nice. We went in November and it was warm during the day (in the 80's) and cold at night (in the 50's). Very enjoyable!
