What You'll Get
Golf is like fertilizer for budding friendships, much like how baseball is fertilizer for the bubblegum industry. Form a gum-like bond with a buddy with today's Groupon: for $34, you get 18 holes of golf for two players at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Tacoma (up to a $68 value).
The championship course at Lake Spanaway Golf Course encompasses nearly 7,000 yards of rolling fairways and well-manicured greens, and includes three holes that received honorable mention in the Seattle Times' "Puget Sound Area's Dream 18 Holes". Designed by course architect A.V. Macan, the course is carved out of a forest of native douglas-firs harvested for their woodsy coats, creating tree-lined fairways with branchy obstacles and strategically placed bunkers. Twosomes can tee off from one of four graded tees at each hole.
A covered, lighted driving range allows for all-weather practice to straighten out hooks and slices ($4 for a small bucket of balls), and club instructors Bob Emmerson and Sterling Radcliff III offer full-length and complimentary 10-minute lessons for students seeking pro wisdom and unsolicited home and garden advice. The clubhouse includes a fully stocked pro shop and a full-service restaurant to equip and fuel links lovers.
Lake Spanaway Golf Course's rates fluctuate throughout the week.

About Lake Spanaway Golf Course
Tucked in the breezy shadows of towering douglas firs, golfers hunt birdies and pars across Lake Spanaway's 7,083-yard course. Fairways tunnel through communities of trees that convince errant golf balls that they are pinecones. Three of the course's holes earned honorable mention in the Seattle Times' Puget Sound area's Dream 18 Holes, including the par 4 12th, where tee shots must trace the fairway as it curves left through a narrow tree line and toward a green shielded by an oasis of vast bunkers.
A covered, lighted driving range sits beside the course, where golfers smooth out swings undisturbed by waning daylight, rain, or hail caused by skydivers eating sunflower seeds. The course's staff of golf pros also helps manage on-course techniques with a variety of instructional options, including complimentary 10-minute lessons.
