The property at Lakewold Gardens has been recognized for its beauty since the early 20th century. A Georgian-style mansion sits at the heart of this 10-acre wonderland, and rare and native plants unfold around it—State Champion trees, Japanese maples, and more than 900 rhododendrons. Fortunately, the garden is open to visitors year-round. Here are some things to check out during your visit:
The Brick Walk: As you emerge from the fern garden, you step onto an exquisitely patterned path that's flanked by Mt. Fuji cherry trees and a sparkling quatrefoil pool. The Brick Walk is especially mesmerizing during springtime, when the cherry trees are in bloom.
Petal Pushers Garden: In the summer, this area erupts with clouds of 20 different kinds of hydrangea petals. Daffodils, primroses, and hellebores thrive in other months, making this a must-stop at any time of the year.
The Lookout: A resting stop that overlooks the Woodland Garden and a stream, the Lookout was recognized by the international organization Gardens for Peace. They named it a symbol of peace and a place of reflection and meditation.
