This show was not to the level of some others seen at the theatre. The talent and presentation was less than some great high school productions. Les Mis on the other hand was outstanding !

What You'll Get

Almost anything can be improved with music, as evidenced by tuba-accompanied balcony serenades, operatic State of the Union addresses, and yodeled bank statements. Tune your ears to the sweet sounds on stage with today’s Groupon: for $29, you get a prime A ticket (up to a $58 value) to miXtape: The Greatest Hits of the 80s - Live, presented by Lamb's Players Theatre at the Horton Grand Theatre. The show currently runs through December 19 and will also run from January 13 to February 27.

miXtape: The Greatest Hits of the 80s - Live is a loving romp through the days when legs needed constant warming and only members were allowed to wear jackets. Accompanied by a live band, the LPT cast lends their vocal cords and laser-guided toes to a high-energy revue of the greatest hits of the Reagan years, showcasing music from Genesis, Journey, U2, Duran Duran, the B-52s, Billy Joel, Madonna, Tears for Fears, Michael Jackson, and more. Neon aerobics costumes, full-scale geometric sets, retro choreography, and a 12-foot animatronic Anthony Michael Hall all add authenticity to the synth-powered time warp. Despite the "Greed is Good" trappings, Lamb's Players Theatre remains an artist-directed, nonprofit theater company committed to presenting widely known classics such as The Music Man alongside premieres and lesser-known gems such as Trying.

Depending on the show date, youth tickets (ages 5–17) may be a lower price from Lamb’s Players Theatre directly. Check the show schedule to ensure you’re getting the best value.

Reviews

miXtape: The Greatest Hits of the 80s - Live was reviewed in the San Diego Reader and in the San Diego Union-Tribune. Yelpers give Horton Grand Theatre a four-star average:

  • miXtape’s a big, sprawling, longish evening, performed with rampant energy and polish by the Lamb’s Players’ eight-person cast. The show’s like a magnet. It attracts not just the music but the popular culture and history of the 1980s. – Jeff Smith, San Diego Reader
  • Yet even if you don't have forever imprinted on your brain the memory of that golden moment spent entangled on a dance floor to Tears for Fears' “Head Over Heels," the show still may engage through sheer force of energy. – James Hebert, San Diego Union-Tribune
