Because plants are jealous of our ability to live indoors, they attempt to infiltrate our finest mansions and universities by slowly climbing stony facades. Visit a place built specifically to contain these floral strivers with today's Groupon: for $14, you get two general-admission tickets to the Pacific Orchid Exposition at the Fort Mason Center on Sunday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (up to a $28 value). The value of today's Groupon is based on two adult tickets (a $28 value if purchased at the door; $24 online). Without a Groupon, senior citizens are eligible for discounted admission ($10 per person at the door; $8 online), and children under 12 can enter for free.
The 59th Annual Pacific Orchid Exposition, "Natural Wonders" is a three-day exhibit highlighting the ooh's, ahh's, and oh-my's of the world's highly prized orchids. Guests can swoon over more than 150,000 fine florets including the cal-orchid, haiku maui orchids, and yih-cheng orchids. Orchids of every shape, color, and size—from fully bloomed beauties to pint-sized planting seeds—will be on display. Likewise, noggins of all sizes will be able to plant seeds of knowledge about the charming blossom's complex floral structure, intricate pollination methods, and tactile defenses mechanisms against petal-pulling hopeless romantics.
The exhibit of orchidaceae is hosted by the San Francisco Orchid Society, a nonprofit organization that regularly implants the culture and cultivation of orchids into the fertile minds of the community through exhibitions, publications, and by pointing at flowers while shouting nice words.
- What a beautiful show! Great for the novice as well as the seasoned grower. The displays were fantastic, the staff was knowledgeable and the prices were very fair. There were also informative talks. – georgia c., Yelp, 1/22/09
