Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

How does this canoe trip work? Are we on the river in a big group? With a guide?

Karen L.  asked on  Dec 13, 2012

A:

On the day of your reservation, you will start by parking and checking in at Larsen's Landing. You will be asked to present your Groupon, sign a liability waiver, and receive your rental life jackets. You will be shown the canoe take-out point so it looks familiar upon your return. You may or may not be starting with other groups of canoers, it just depends on the day. Once everyone checks in, you will take our bus up to the canoe launch. The two options for this deal are an 8 1/2 mile trip starting at Espencheid Forest Preserve, or a 5 1/2 mile trip starting at Kishwaukee Forest Preserve. You should indicate your desired trip when making your reservation. Once you get on the river, you are on your own and free to go as fast or as slow as you like. Most people choose to pack a cooler with snacks, lunch, and drinks to bring on the canoe trip. There are many sandbars and islands that are public if you want to stop along the way. There is no time limit on your canoe trip. We bring you upstream and you paddle/float your way back to Larsen's Landing where you have parked your car. The Kishwaukee River is easy flowing, has no motor boat traffic, and is perfect for paddlers of any skill level. Standard trips are NOT guided. However, we do offer guide service for an additional fee. Arrangements would need to be made in advance for a guided trip.

* * * GOOD THROUGH JULY 31, 2013 * * * Larsen's Landing will honor Groupons purchased on this deal through July 31, 2013. ("Expires 180 days from purchase" is Groupon's standard wording) This deal is being offered for customers to purchase as holiday gift certificates and/or simply to save money on a trip which obviously won't be taken until the Spring or Summer of 2013. Opening day is typically mid-April, but remains to be determined depending on weather and river conditions. Q:

With this Groupon, is it possible to get a double kayak instrad of canoe?

Margo  asked on  Dec 14, 2012

A:

Sorry, we do not have tandem kayaks for rent at this time. We do have a limited number of solo kayaks for rent at $45 each. I can allow you to apply your $70 value Groupon towards the rental of two kayaks if you also paid the $20 difference. You would need to let me know this at the time of booking your reservation.

Q:

We are trying to get a large group to go and some need a 2 person and some need a 4 person canoe. Can we purchase the 2 person groupon and pay for the 4 person canoe at the time but be in the same group?

Kelly R.  asked on  Dec 16, 2012

A:

Yes. You can certainly all go together as as group. I would not recommend four adults in one canoe. We do have several with that capacity rating, so it can be done if that is what you prefer. You can buy a Groupon for that canoe and then pay the $15 add'l each for the 3rd and 4th people.

A:

Please designate a group leader to be a point of contact for us regarding your reservations. Ask everyone to indicate they are part of that group when making reservations and when checking in. The additional fees can be paid at the time of your trip or in advance on our website.

Q:

Does the $35 include the rental canoe or is there an extra fee to rent a canoe?

Kathy C.  asked on  Dec 13, 2012

A:

The $35 deal includes rental of one canoe (for two people), life jackets, paddles, and transportation upstream to the canoe launch (by van or bus). If you wish to have 3 people in one canoe there would be an additional $15 charge due at the time of rental. We do not charge extra for young children in a canoe with their parents.
