In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play tells the unlikely and largely unknown story of the invention of perhaps the key instrument in human sexuality. During the late 19th century, in an anonymous, seemingly simple Victorian home, the noble Dr. Givings is working on a device to cure women of "hysteria," a since-outmoded psychological disorder thought to have been brought on by sexual frustration. The invention in question? The vibrator, which he tests on hysterical women in his home office. Can the good doctor develop his invention under the watchful eye of his young wife? Based on true events, the play depicts how the vibrator transitioned from a medical tool to a consumer phenomenon; it's also a charming look at marriage and the true meaning of love. Watch as it reaches a climax at the Las Vegas Little Theatre.
