Black Jack. Dottie. Topaz. Crackers. While Latta Equestrian Center brims with experienced instructors, the true stars of the staff are the horses. Numbering about 30, the Latta steeds include Shetland ponies, Arabians, and a slew of other breeds—even a Clydesdale named Tonka. With such a wide range of equine personalities, it's easy for even novice riders to find a good match for their lessons and therapeutic riding sessions. The center even offers birthday party packages, which include group rides, as well as cakes shaped like the birthday kid's favorite Triple Crown winner. For a just-for-fun retreat, riders can also sign up for carriage rides, sunset rides, and other outdoor riding adventures.
