Laughter is the best medicine, though it tends to be the worst legal defense. Salute the healing art of comedy with today's Groupon: for $22, you get one general-seating ticket to "Laughs for Lions" starring Dat Phan, presented by the Kamehameha Lions Club Foundation (a $45 value). The fundraising event takes place Saturday, August 27 at the Mamiya Theatre, located at the Saint Louis Center for the Arts. The preshow plaza party and raffle auction begins a 5:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:35 p.m.
The Kamehameha Lions Club Foundation, a registered charitable organization, harnesses chuckles and world-class entertainers to benefit its scholarship fund for the Sacred Hearts Academy and the La Pietra School for Girls LEO Clubs Community Service Programs, as well as other statewide community-service projects. MānoaDNA performs a concert on the Mamiya plaza to kick off the preparty, which will be chock full of finger foods such as small sandwiches, veggie trays, and popcorn. Each ticket entitles its holder to one beer or glass of wine, and water, juice, and soft drinks will flow freely all night to rinse palates as clean as a freshly laundered criminal rap sheet. A comedic magic show, a ventriloquist, and a set by comedian Shawn Felipe all lead up to the evening's main event, a guffaw-a-thon shepherded by Dat Phan, the first champion of NBC's Last Comic Standing. Groupon holders will receive first-come, first-served seating located in the back portion of the theater, safely outside of the comedians' splash zone.
