A Chat with Laughing Steel
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Students go shopping in the recycled metal yard for inspiration and together we tell a story with junk which becomes original sculpture. A fun fact about Art In The Dairy: it’s the most peaceful, eclectic art studio in Charlotte with two goats, one donkey, a lot of chickens, three dogs, and one happy cat.
What is the experience customers can expect?
In just three hours, first-time welders learn to make unique Tack Metal Art. Students learn shop and equipment safety, how to MIG weld, how to finish their artwork with grinding and polishing tools, and colorize and clear coat their art. Students leave inspired and encouraged to continue education.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Becoming my own boss is a dream come true, so taking a leap of faith was easy. Amazing doors are opening for me. With more to talk about than this box will allow me to, I’m happy to share my whole story when we meet. To sum up, life is about sharing my natural abilities to as many as I can reach.
What do you love most about your job?
I am a storyteller and helping people tell their story is what makes me happy. For more than 15 years as a pastry chef I told edible stories, and now stories are told in steel forever using recycled, reclaimed treasures. I’m excited for this new year, new clients, and new adventures. I love my art life.
