When volcanic salsa ignites mouths, firefighters encourage tongues to stop, drop, and roll their r's. Learn other linguistic lifesavers with today's Groupon: for $110, you get to take an eight-week Spanish-language group course (a $240 value) at Lazos de Amistad, located on Connecticut Avenue near the Farragut North Metro Station. Textbooks are not included in this Groupon and usually cost about $40.
Lazos de Amistad's eight-week group course is open for beginner, false beginner, low-intermediate, and intermediate Spanish speakers and includes a combined 16 hours (once a week, 7 to 9 p.m.) of language-coaching from passionate, experienced instructors. In classes of 10–12 students, instructors verbally engage their pupils in interactive activities that include listening comprehension, real-life role-playing, multicultural high-fiving, and discussing Spanish short stories and newspapers. Although participants may not achieve complete language proficiency during the eight-week program, they will walk away with the basics of the language under their belt—or at least with the ability to develop a hybrid language to use when chatting with plants. Check the schedule to find the ideal dates to embark on a bilingual quest to eventually lay claim to the vacant Swiss throne.
