What You'll Get

In Les Misérables II: Final Justice, Jean Valjean is arrested for committing an even greater crime against French law: applying margarine to another man’s moustache during dinner without asking first. Feast around the proper tableside etiquette of France with today's Groupon: for $18, you get $36 worth of French bistro cuisine at Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte on Lexington in Midtown.

The original Le Relais de Venise in Paris was founded in 1959, and undercover agents have been attempting to steal its secret steak- sauce recipe ever since. Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte's simple prix fixe menu allows indecisive diners and off-duty life coaches to relax into the pre-determined arms of deliciousness without order anxiety. The meal consists of a green salad with mustard vinaigrette and walnuts, hand-chopped frites, and a juicy Midwestern steak cooked to order with a side of the celebrated sauce ($24). Your steak is brought to you in two acts, with one half held back for heat retention and dramatic effect. A vegetarian option is also available and comes with a salad, frites, a selection of cheeses, and a choice of dessert ($24). A bevy of à la carte dessert options includes profiteroles ($6.50), crème brûlée ($5.75), and a dazzling array of ice creams and sorbets ($5.75–$6.50)

Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte's colorful French brasserie interior, with closely spaced wooden tables and cheerful Venetian paintings, lends dining a relaxed air. The fine wine list features fermented grapes by the glass ($6.75–$12) or bottle ($21.95–$56). Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte does not accept reservations.

Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte has been featured in the New Yorker, the New York Post, and is a favorite of the New York Times. Critics at Time Out New York call it the Best French for the Masses. Zagat members recommend it, and Yelpers give it a 3.5-star average.

  • Cooked on a grooved griddle, the steak arrives tender, sliced thin and drenched in a top-secret sauce with a recipe that is the subject of heated online debate... Whatever's in it, you'll find yourself craving it long after it's gone – Carla Spartos, New York Post
  • "You know what you are going to get, there's no surprise, but what you get is delicious, filling and fun. And isn't it nice to not worry about what to order. The sauce on the steak is mysterious and magical, the wines wash down the meat and salad. All in all a fine time was had by everyone." – AbramG933309, Zagat
