During workshops, up to 12 apprentices walk through Calgary's photogenic streets, from the downtown Olympic Plaza to Prince's Island Park. Along the way, they duck indoors and outdoors, snapping pictures in one of three courses: Digital Photography I, Digital Photography II, or Travel Photography. In the basic digital-photography class, groups learn to deftly wield their SLRs, employing available light and controlling depth of field and perspective. During the more advanced digital class, students explore time-lapse photography, the use of polarizing filters, and exposure compensation. The travel class mashes up lessons from the other two courses with an emphasis on using artistic tools to express scenes.
