Having mounted their first steeds at the tender age of 3, owners Michael Murphy and Elizabeth Vaughan Murphy bring a lifelong passion for all things equine to Legacy Stables. Atop morgan horses, instructors lead students of all skill sets—from beginning equestrians to skilled train robbers—through personalized lessons that can encompass saddle-seat, hunter-seat, and Western techniques. Guests may also opt for two-hour riding shindigs that include relaxing trots, complimentary cups of frosty ice cream, and neighed renditions of “Wild Horses.” An oscillating weathervane crowned with a steel steed lazily swivels over Legacy’s idyllic ranch, overlooking a covered, all-weather practice arena, as well as an old country gift barn and plethora of high-end dining options just down the road.

Legacy Stables

While still learning how to walk on their own, Legacy Stables owners Michael Murphy and Elizabeth Vaughan Murphy began learning how to ride horses. The two both grew up around horses, and they apply their lifelong knowledge of horseback riding with students during training and lessons in saddle-seat, hunter-seat, Western, and driving styles. During lessons, students are introduced to the stable's fleet of morgan horses, which are known to be one of the oldest and most versatile breeds in North America. The compassionate instructors lead lessons for both beginner and advanced riders, as well as small children who learn basic steering and methods of riding a horse without training wheels.
