Contrary to popular belief, boats are actually much safer than cars, which inexplicably sink every time you drive them on water. Take a proper water road ride with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get a two-hour sail from Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships (a $30 value for adult tickets, and $15 for children). Each ticket includes a complimentary bottled water or soft drink (a $2 value), although there is also a cash bar on board. This Groupon expires in about two months on September 28th, so make your reservations as soon as possible.

Begin your two-hour voyage across the Boston Harbor by climbing aboard the Schooner Liberty Clipper, a 125-foot historical replica of an 18th-century clipper ship that holds up to 110 people, or 18.33 Village People. An experienced crew navigates the ship, though at points during the expedition, they'll let you take the wheel and help set the sails, both of which are preferable nautical activities to swabbing the deck and vacuuming the rudders. Liberty Fleet is open seven days a week, and you can choose from three daily sail times (noon, 3 p.m., or 6 p.m.) to enjoy the sights and beauty of Boston Harbor and its surrounding islands, as well as the city skyline.

The schooner is docked by the New England Aquarium, and boarding begins 15 minutes before departure time. It’s generally recommended that you show up 30 to 45 minutes beforehand to ensure that you won’t have to board by catapult. Call to reserve your spot within three days of your intended sailing date.

Your Groupon ID number must be provided at the time of booking. Not valid for event sails and special occasions.

The Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships has more than 550 fans on Facebook and six Yelpers give it three stars, with some mixed opinions of the captain's sense of humor, though the sailing trip itself is well-regarded:

  • We went on a beautiful day, and while the wind did not allow much actual sailing, the cruise was a fantastic trip around the harbor area. I would definitely recommend them for activities to entertain your out of town guests. – Heather H., Yelp
  • I would recommend this boat to all looking to get on the water for the evening or for a company who wants a daytime outing option. – Julie R., Yelp

Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships

Docked adjacent to the New England Aquarium, the Liberty Star and the Liberty Clipper look distinguished. The Liberty Star measures 67 feet long and can hold up to 39 passengers, and the Liberty Clipper measures 125 feet long with a capacity for up to 100 passengers. The massive schooner is an authentic replica of an 18th-century Baltimore clipper ship, thoroughly modernized to transport passengers on Boston Harbor sails and longer private charters. They sail daily throughout the harbor for public and group outings, along with private charters for special events, such as weddings or corporate proms. For a longer respite, they hoist the sails and steer southwards where the Liberty Clipper sails the Bahamas and the Liberty Star sails the Virgin Islands on adventure sailing vacations.

Great experience! Would definitely do it again!

An extremely pleasant way to spend two hours on the Boston waterfront! We went on a quiet Monday afternoon. All crew members were pleasant, competent and enjoyable. Participants on this cruise got to help the crew unfurl the sails. Bar and drinks were available. Captain of the ship provided just the right amount of information on the tour and a wry sense of humor which was appreciated. We loved the story about the "all you can eat" IHOP opening on the Seaport waterfront. Go on this for relaxation and the ability to enjoy the sun, the peacefulness of a busy harbor and the company of companion and/or friends.

Nice staff and nice day. It was really just a boat ride, not a sightseeing cruise, but it was a beautiful day and we had a nice time.
