It’s a great place for kids . Was a little disappointed This time Visiting as a lot of attractions were closed due to the pandemic restrictions. However still had a great time with my two boys (11 and 6). Their gift shop is great and the whole Place is very clean and very well Maintained.

About This Deal

Learning about science in a museum is safer than experiencing it first-hand by accidentally ingesting a science textbook. Embrace science with today's Groupon for admission to exhibitions and a 3-D or feature film in the Joseph D. Williams Science Theater at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. The Center opens for exploration Tuesday–Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Choose from the following two deal options:

  • For $9, you get a child ticket (a $17.50 value).
  • For $12, you get an adult ticket (a $22.75 value).

A nonprofit science museum, Liberty Science Center features the nation’s largest IMAX Dome screen, live science programs with audience participation, as well as traveling and permanent exhibitions. One featured temporary exhibit is Mammoths and Mastodons, an exploration of the massive, furry creatures of the Ice Age (additional $4 for adults, $3 for children). Permanent displays include exhibits on skyscrapers, infectious microbes, the science of language, and animal-survival mechanisms, to name just a few of the mind-boggling expositions that kindly choose not to blind patrons with science.

After exploring the permanent and rotating exhibits, families can scrub up for Infection Connection’s Be a Surgeon live science program, where participants diagnose mysterious pains, and then perform surgery without the hassle of patient-consent forms or expensive anesthesia. For a reflective look at the animal kingdom, the Joseph D. Williams Science Theater is currently staging Bugs! 3-D and Sea Rex 3-D: Journey to a Prehistoric World daily for near-full sensory immersion into the worlds of crawlers and critters other than ourselves.

Liberty Science Center was reviewed by The New York Times and was named one of the 10 Best Science Centers by Parents magazine; Yelpers give it a near-perfect 4.5-star average:

  • The biggest wow for kids and adults: the skyscrapers. During a complete redo last year, the Liberty Science Center installed 30-foot-tall images of some famous buildings (along with video from construction sites) plus plenty for kids to try out for themselves, including a crane, a 20-foot wind tunnel, and materials to create their own tower. – Parents magazine
  • A live Madagascar hissing cockroach; a giant blue nose that sneezes spray at visitors; an I-beam on which visitors precariously perch; chronicles of epidemics; creatures that sting and bite; Imax footage of Hurricane Katrina hitting the bayou: These are the signs of an aggressive and sometimes distressing world that emerge at the ambitious $109 million transformation of the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. – Edward Rothstein, The New York Times

About Liberty Science Center

Liberty Science Center houses a dozen galleries for interactive exploration. Visitors can step out into the Infinity Climber, suspended 35 feet in the air; or connect with more than 100 animal species including fascinating naked mole rats, buzzing honey bees, and a family of tamarin monkeys. At I Explore, young scientists ages 2–5 learn about the world around them while launching colorful balls into the air or creating a unique design on the light wall. Visitors can also buy tickets to a planetarium show in the biggest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. A family could easily spend more than four hours at the many hands-on attractions and experiences designed to excite visitors about the power, promise, and pure fun of science and technology.
