Q:

Very similar question to one above. I have three children, the youngest who would be in a kayak with me. Would it likely be okay for my 2 daughters, ages 9 and 10 to be together, or would it be too much for them? They are both relatively athletic, but nothing off the charts! Thank you.

Loren A.  asked on  Mar 13, 2013

A:

Hello Loren, In my opinion it may be a little hard for the two in the tandem. What I would suggest is when you call to book the tour you ask to go in the morning when the water is typically calmer and that will make it easier for them to cruise along. If you would like to talk further about feel free to give me a call at the shop I would be happy to help. Thank you, Jared

Q:

Hello - we purchased this groupon last year and redeemed it for a wonderful day on the water - Is this year's groupon for the same kayak experience with the same tour / paddling locations as last year???? Thank you for your time.

kathy f.  asked on  Mar 12, 2013

A:

Hello Kathy, Yes, depending on the weather we will return to Merepoint and head out towards the seal ledges and Williams Island. If you let your guide know he or she could alter the route some what from what you may have done last year.

Q:

I have a 7 , 9 and 12 year old and would like to do this as a family. The 12 year old is a big boy and could handle paddling on his own, as could the 9 year old who is very muscular and active. Perhaps they could paddle together? They have paddled before. The 7 year old I would like with me. Would this be possible?

Laurie A.  asked on  Mar 11, 2013

A:

Hello Laurie, We would love to have you and your family join us for a paddle this summer. As you've said, the 9 and 12 y/o could paddle together in a tandem and the 7 y/o could paddle with you and another tandem. When you call to reserve your trip please make sure to request 2 tandems for your family. Thanks Marc

Q:

Is late May too early for kayaking? What are the temperatures like in general/in the water? What are the chances of tipping over?

Kenneth S.  asked on  Mar 10, 2013

A:

Hello Kenneth, No, Late May can a be a good time to paddle. Our paddling season opens mid May. Water temps avg high 50's low 60's and air temps avg high 70's low 80's. The chances of tipping over are low. We use solo and tandem kayaks. Tandem kayaks are much more stable than solo's.

Q:

Can four people kayak in one kayak? Or three people? Do the inexperienced or no experienced go with anyone that is more expeirenced. what do you wear?

Nancy C.  asked on  Mar 9, 2013

A:

Hello Nancy, The kayaks we use on our tours are limited to either 2 people per kayak or 1person per kayak. Our guides will balance the group out based on experience and physical fitness. No experience is required to enjoy this tour. As for what to wear, wear shoes that can get wet and shorts or a bathing suit. Bring a light wind breaker top and bottom in the event it gets windy and cools down. Please call the shop if you have additional questions or want to discuss further. Thank you Marc

Q:

Once we purchase the groupon how do we arrange the time to take the tour? Is the 4 person minimum arranged by you, are do we need to arrange to have 4 people before calling you for a tour. Thank you!

sandy s.  asked on  Mar 8, 2013

A:

Hello Sandy, To make reservations you just need to call the shop ahead of time. The minimum of four will usually be met by others with groupons, but you are more than welcome to spread the word to ensure the tour will run.

Q:

does single mean one kayaker and one guide or do you group together

Jennie C.  asked on  Mar 8, 2013

A:

Thank you for your question. Single means you will be in a kayak by your-self. If you have never been kayaking before a great option is going in a tandem kayak. In a tandem kayak you are in the boat with another person and they are very stable. Most tours will have only one guide unless the numbers require a second.

Q:

is this good for beginners? is their a weight limit for the kayak's im a big guy and would love to go with my son who is 13? is their an age requirement as well? thanks

james s.  asked on  Mar 8, 2013

A:

Yes, no previous experience is necessary. Generally, they have been able to accommodate people as tall as 6’5" on tours as well as participants weighing in the 250lb range. Also, there are no age requirements, but minors have to be accompanied by an adult/guardian. I hope this helps!
