Herbert Hoover won America's hearts and votes when he promised a college-educated chicken in every pot and a kayak in every garage. Get a taste of the American dream with today's Groupon: for $20, you get two indoor games at Lincoln Kayak Polo’s indoor fall league (a $40 value), which runs from October 8 through December 17 on Friday nights from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Prairie Life Fitness Center pool across from Seacrest Park.
The Lincoln Kayak Polo fall league is a fun way to workout, meet people, and stimulate the amusement cortex of the brain. Kayak Polo is a combination of basketball, water polo, and kayaking. The object of the game is to score as many goals as possible through the use of teamwork, paddling, and the laws of physics. All necessary gear is provided, as are referees who are on hand to detail the finer points of the game with a fine-tooth comb. Many players may be new to the game, so it’s a very low-pressure environment, just like cooking with Rachael Ray at a Tupperware party. Once the rules are set, teams are split up and set loose to offensively and defensively peruse the pool while avoiding bumper-car-like kayak tackles from the other team. Sportsmanship is paramount in this league, and paddlers are encouraged to have fun and not worry about the score, since there is no official keeping track. After two games, avid aquateers might want to hone their k-polo skills and enroll in one of Lincoln Kayak Polo’s classes in kayaking, whitewater kayaking, or rolling your kayak, which is the process of turning water vessels into sushi.
Players must be at least eight years old.
