Lincoln Park is the only neighborhood in Chicago where you can spend the morning chit-chatting with a troop of monkeys, giggle uncontrollably at a professional improv show, enjoy dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and soak in the sunset while walking along the beach. This neighborhood combines some of the city’s best shopping, dining, and entertainment into 3 square miles.

What you might not know is that Lincoln Park also supports a vast network of social organizations. These groups include everything from food pantries to community shelters, all working to promote locals’ well-being.

To support these organizations’ efforts, Groupon Grassroots is pairing with the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce to raise funds and fuel the good work being done across the neighborhood. Every $10 Grassroots raises will be used by one of the following six organizations to provide counseling for children, support people with disabilities, and conserve the environment. Read on to learn more about their ongoing efforts to change lives in and around Lincoln Park.

Beyond OCD

Beyond OCD connects people affected by obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and related disorders with local therapists and online resources to help them live full, healthy lives. The organization hosts virtual support calls, raises awareness for the disorders, and provides information for people who need help.

Anixter Center

For nearly a century, low-income individuals of all ages with disabilities have turned to Anixter Center for the services they need to lead successful lives. Significant support is given to kids and young adults up to 21 years old. The center helps them through such programs as family-based play therapy for young children (up to 8 years old) and early intervention, mentoring, leadership, and socialization programs for children and teens who are deaf or hard of hearing. The center also offers a therapeutic day school that combines education with social and emotional support for students ages 7–21.

Juvenile Protective Association

Juvenile Protective Association promotes the safety of vulnerable children by conducting therapeutic counseling and expert consultations with families across the city. These sessions focus on emotional and physical well-being following violence and trauma and primarily support people living in extreme poverty.

Lakeview Pantry

Lakeview Pantry’s three-part mission is to provide food for hungry people, promote independence through self-help initiatives, and raise awareness of hunger and poverty. The organization accomplishes this goal through social-service assistance and regular food and hygiene-product distribution at two locations in the region.

Lincoln Park Community Shelter

For 30 years, the Lincoln Park Community Shelter has helped men and women address the challenges of homelessness, from finding a bed at night to moving into a long-term apartment. It operates a 24-hour transitional shelter paired with comprehensive support services that create paths to transition out of homelessness

Lincoln Park Conservancy

The Lincoln Park Conservancy protects natural and historical spaces throughout the area for the benefit of the public and the environment. The organization identifies areas of improvement in parks across the neighborhood, restores sites to their full potential, and maintains them to preserve their natural beauty for the longterm.
