Hand-penned by artist, illustrator, and native Philadelphian Dan Duffy, Lionword’s images capture memorable events from the Philadelphia sports sphere. Duffy uses shirt-ripping muscles to stretch the satin canvas paper around frames, unveiling championship memories of occasions such as the Phillies Road to the 2008 World Series in a print that fuses each game’s score from the 2008 season into an image celebrating Brad Lidge. Eagles fan can remember the late Reggie White with the The Minister of Defense portrait, compiled out of important sack statistics, including last names of the quarterbacks and the subsequent number of band-aids dished out by the trainers. In addition to career and seasonal accomplishments, the artwork commemorates humdinging single game performances by scribbling a mid-wind-up Roy Halladay out of each tallied out from his perfect game and no hitter from the 2010 season.

Dan Duffy has two passions —art and sports —that he pursues both personally and professionally. He played rugby at the university level, and after graduating from Hussian School of Art in 2006, he crafted illustrations for companies such as ESPN and Golf Digest. Now, he works as associate art director for PGA Magazine, and also creates sports-themed and custom artwork for Lionword. Customers can order "word" illustrations that fuse text and design, or opt for a portrait of a favorite Philadelphia athlete crafted entirely from the imprints of their teams' logo stamps.
