More than 800,000 adults living in the Atlanta area are unable to read, preventing them from performing a host of basic tasks such as checking medicine labels and filling out job applications. Literacy Action empowers individuals with literacy skills through reading-and-writing classes that are part of a comprehensive curriculum of academic, job, and life-skills training.
Since illiteracy can also be part of larger intergenerational rhythms and cycles of poverty, Literacy Action places an emphasis on family literacy and financial self-sufficiency. Literacy Action's adult classes teach essential reading-and-writing skills while engaging students in critical thinking and computer and job-readiness training to encourage success both on the General Educational Development test (GED) and in the workplace. While Literacy Action's adult-literacy classes are free, registration costs $15 for each student. Since 100% of students live at or below the poverty line, Literacy Action relies on donations to help fund registration.
Join G-Team and donate $9 to help fund registration in literacy classes for low-income adults. If G-Team members raise $360, 24 Atlanta-area individuals will get free registration in Literacy Action's adult-literacy classes. Each additional donation will go toward registration for another student.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
