Literally, a Haunted House
When it opened its doors to the public in 1985, Literally, a Haunted House—a.k.a. the Culbertson Mansion's carriage house—was just a modest stop along the Jaycee Spook Run operated by about 10 people. Its ability to scare the daylight out of guests, among other things, has helped the house evolve into a major production. Now it requires hundreds of volunteers needing more than nine months a year to prep it for October's spotlight.
The volunteers have played a huge role in the house's success; in fact, nearly every gruesome creature visitors cross paths with inside is a volunteer who isn't paid a single dime or vial of blood to do the job. Their volunteer efforts allow the price of admission to go into preserving the Culbertson Mansion.
However, some creatures inside the carriage house aren't as altruistic. Over the years, the mansion staff and volunteers have reported hearing strange sounds after hours and seeing mysterious figures moving among the rooms. The motion-activated security alarm system has been activated by seemingly nothing multiple times. It's no wonder the staff deemed it the ideal location for a Halloween haunt.
