Hanna was fantastic. Made me feel quite at ease with the process. I splurged on their restorative ointment - which felt like a mask of Vaseline - until someone suggested that I use Cicalfate+ by Avène. (Half the price and definitely better results in healing and protection. I paired it with Cera Ve’s Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser.) I’m going on about products here because finding the right ones are key here in the discomfort/relief game that follows for the next 10+ days. I skipped the sunscreen and lived in a wide brim hat. (The Cicalfate+ has zinc oxide in it, so you look like you’re wearing sunscreen, minus all the broad spectrum goodies…so the hat is an essential part of this.)
Results: Victory! I’ve had freckles since I was 5. I’m WAY older now, and I totally forgot that there was probably some non-freckled skin lurking somewhere beneath all that S.Florida sun exposure. But lo and behold, my freckle mustache was the first to go (day 1, before my face turned completely red and then into a 10+-day shedding garden lizard). The transformation is vaguely mesmerizing, but requires a sense of humor because the landscape of your face undergoes a scorched earth appearance at times. As those darker layers flake away, the new skin below started to look promising and - wait for it - not nearly as freckled. Say what?!!
Mind you, this is just treatment #1 of a recommended 3 treatments, so I have not been miraculously restored to the face of my youth (in all honesty, I’d probably need some fillers and maybe a little work on my eyelids). But for anyone tempted to play around with something not too terribly invasive, this is a great deal on something that will be an improvement over sun damaged facial skin.
