It’s been a little over 525,600 minutes since one of Broadway’s most successful and critically acclaimed productions wrapped its final performance in the famed Manhattan Theater District. Rent has been out on the road ever since. Today’s deal gets you half-priced tickets to the tour’s next stop, the monumental Fillmore Miami Beach at The Jackie Gleason Theater. For $40 (which includes any pesky ticket and venue fees), you get one orchestra ticket to this Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning American classic on either Tuesday, December 8, or Wednesday, December 9. Both shows start at 8 p.m. To reserve a block of seats, purchase multiple Groupons in the same transaction.
This show is on a short, six-day Miami run with a limited number of seats set aside for Rent-headed Groupies, and they're bound to go fast. Two of the stars from the original run are reprising their iconic roles: Anthony Rapp as independent filmmaker Mark Cohen and Adam Pascal as the songwriter Roger Davis. You’ll also recognize these on-stage roommates from their staring roles in the 2005 Hollywood adaptation. After 12 years and a countless 5,124 Broadway performances, this rock musical still packs an impact. Its raw take on growing up in the Lower East Side surrounded by poverty and HIV has withstood the test of time. If you’ve only seen the story unfold on the big or small screen, this is a great chance to catch Rent on the screen-less screen.
The two stars of the show express their enthusiasm for the Miami stint in an interview by Miami Art Zine. While the show is yet to debut in Miami, Broadway Box reviews of recent performances from this tour give Rent four overall stars.
- From my stage-right seat, I had the ability to watch the cast members off stage. It was amazing to see how happy they were, how excited to be doing this. There was a true joy there that you don't often see from actors. And what actors these were! By God! These people were on this night. Winckler sings "One Song Glory" as if his life depended on it, and his touching version of "Your Eyes" even got to me. – Jason, Broadway Box
