A gourmet lunch with a complimentary wine tasting keeps energy reserves high as riders tour local wineries and meet the winemakers. Guests also taste and learn about olive oils and balsamic vinegars and pair a dessert with a port tasting. The guides design the tours for all fitness levels, leading groups along routes with minimal inclines. Throughout, a sweeper transport vehicle carries any bottles or purchases made at the winery as well as any cyclists too tired or full from the trip. Livermore Valley Wine & Cycle Tours

The history of wine in the Livermore Valley spans 250 years. Spanish missionaries planted the region's first grapes in the 18th century, and Robert Livermore sowed the first commercial vines in the mid-19th. These early efforts led to America's first international gold medal for wine at the 1889 Paris Exposition, when California grapes beat out bordeaux in the annual race to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

The guides at Livermore Valley Wine & Cycle Tours lead cyclists into this historic, scenic valley in which some 40 wineries currently reside. Rides between them follow moderate routes, letting peddlers soak in views of the canyons and ridges that rise and fall between the clustered rows of vines.

Customer Reviews

Barbara really does a great job of setting a safe yet laid-back vibe. The wineries we went to (Tenuta & Thomas Coyne) were both very good, yet different in scenery and ambiance, so I felt like we got some variety. We will definitely do this again, especially when we have visitors. It's a great way to get exposed to all the beautiful sights and yummy food & wine that Livermore has to offer.
