Tee up with today's Groupon: for $60, you get 18 holes of golf and dinner at the LKM Scramble on the SilverHorn Golf Club Saturday, February 26, 2011 (a $125 value); proceeds help the Linda K. Manning division of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition combat the disease, and count as tax-deductible donations. Shotgun starts at 1 p.m. and co-ed groups compete in this four-person scramble format, where golfers continue play from within a club-length of the best shot made by their partner or themselves. The rolling hills and glinting lakes of the SilverHorn course provide a natural backdrop for good-natured arguments about whose shot or hair is best. The course's arbor-framed fairways, strategic placement of sand and water, contoured greens, and signature golf-ball holes can be credited to designer Randy Heckenkemper, along with PGA-tour professionals Willie Wood and Scott Verplank. Twenty acres of ball-devouring water encroach on the left side of the challenging 6th hole, and a 15th hole shielded by a sizeable sand trap tests any golfer not possessed of a bunker-busting swing. The LKM Scramble is followed by a dinner, after which stomachs digesting good food can relax in tandem with brains still digesting their good deed. Promotional items will also be given away at registrations.

Reviews

Six Yahoo! Travelers and four Insider Pagers give SilverHorn Golf Club of Texas a four-star average:

  • The greens are excellent. Narrow fairways, require accurate drives. Course tee boxes, roughs and fairways in excellent shape for the time of year and being a public course. Would play again and strongly recommend to others. – Yahoo! Traveler on 1/16/09
  • This is a very nice golf course in the Texas Hill County. If you like playing courses with lots of relief then this is the course for you. The greens, while we were there, were in good shape and the fairways were great. – Geoff G., Insider Pages
