People eat three times a day to prevent mouthy mouths from brashly blurting out their distaste for the rest of the digestive system. Today's Groupon prevents inner-system quarreling by subduing chatty cheeks with local eats: for $20, you get $40 worth of fresh Southwestern flavors and drinks at Lodge on the Desert on North Alvernon.
The eatery, nestled within a posh boutique hotel, serves up a fresh menu of locally sourced fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily in its casual-elegant dining room. A breakfast of huevos rancheros ($8.50) and mesquite-flour-buttermilk pancakes ($8) offer suitably Southwestern sustenance for a pair of comically mismatched police detectives, while cubicle-farm escapees looking to linger over lunch will find a haven of upscale hand-held delights, like the Alaskan halibut tacos with cilantro slaw, peppers-onions-garlic, and peppercream ($9), washed down with a glass of prickly-pear lemonade ($3.50). Dinner diners will peruse a pared-down menu featuring a prime-beef filet wrapped in house-cured bacon, served alongside a golden-butter mash and fresh vegetables with demi-glace ($32), as well as a seared duck breast served with Moroccan couscous, hydro-watercress, and a post-razz cherry glace ($26).
The Lodge's warm and inviting dining room, with a wall of windows that looks out onto the stylized patio, offers diners the pleasant experience of dining alfresco without the pesky desert winds that abscond with napkins and identities. So spend an evening savoring the fermented flavor of one of the eatery's wines, or indulging in a decadent slice of the ancho-chocolate torte topped with Chantilly-laced whipped cream and a rich raspberry coulis ($7) with today’s Groupon to Lodge on the Desert.
