What You'll Get
Because pictures are worth a thousand words, it’s relatively easy to barter a box full of experimental cat photos for a pristine copy of War and Peace with today’s Groupon to The Los Angeles Photo School. Choose between two options:
- For $150, you get a four-hour model test-shoot (up to a $300 value).
- For $159, you get a four-hour photography workshop with professional photographer Dove Shore (up to a $325 value).
The Los Angeles Photo School’s modeling and photography workshops work together to build portfolios while imparting professional techniques and advice. Professional coiffeurs, makeup artists, and stylists await the arrival of aspiring models, who pose with professional spell-casters during the four-hour workshop session as up to 25 aspiring shutterbugs learn lighting tricks from Dove Shore, a head photographer for Coachella whose work regularly appears in Rolling Stone and Elle. Models have the opportunity to pose for multiple photographers, including Shore, to achieve a variety of shots, all of which models can use in their books since participating photographers will sign a release before the shoot. During the four-hour session, agents will be on-site seeking their muses, offering a chance for models to meet potential clients.
For those on the other side of the camera, a jam-packed curriculum of hands-on demonstrations teaches studio and ambient lighting tricks and helps students to emulate Shore’s recent projects. Students have the opportunity to shoot in an environment similar to a high-fashion magazine shoot and turn an ordinary living room into a disco inferno. Advanced equipment such as soft boxes, umbrellas, and beauty dishes will be available for those interested in delving deeper into the technique of a photo shoot, providing the opportunity for students to use these tools to create special effects and stunning shots. Shore’s assistants step in to provide assistance when necessary, eliminating confusion and massaging fatigued index fingers.
Photography students should bring their own cameras (although The Los Angeles Photo School can loan cameras on request for an addition fee of $35); all other equipment is provided. Models should wear nude undergarments and bring two dressy outfits, one casual outfit, shoes, and a gaze of lens-shattering intensity.
Though The Los Angeles Photo School sometimes features a discounted price online, this Groupon still offers the best deal available.
