Had a wonderful day at the L A Zoo recently. Had not been in 25 years. This is an amazing oasis right in L A. No need to drive to San Diego. Take the tram to the top and walk down the hill. Fun day

We got the family pass because we have twin 2 year old boys. It's so worth it for us. Our boys love seeing the gorillas and chimpanzees and feeding the giraffes. The price is well worth it.

About Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens

When you take your kids to the Los Angeles Zoo, you aren't just taking them to see wild animals in a family-friendly environment. You just might be introducing them to a lifelong love of the sciences. After all, as long as they're here, they'll be up close and personal with habitats designed and praised by some of the leading minds in zoology. Jane Goodall, for one, has lauded the "Chimpanzees of the Mahale Mountains" habitat as one of the finest in the country. Here's what else you might find at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens:

  • The LAIR: Short for "Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles," this indoor exhibit has a name to evoke its creepy-crawly inhabitants. But it's no villainous hideout inside—it's a brightly lit habitat populated by local reptiles and rare critters from around the world.
  • Rainforest of the Americas: Visitors start at the river's edge, meeting such residents as giant river otters, spotted sting rays and piranha. As they wind their way through the forest they will be greeted by tapirs, howler monkeys and toucans. And, finally, revealing the elusive jaguar.
  • Botanical Gardens: For a quieter change of pace, the Botanical Gardens welcome guests to walk among a host of plants, representing over 800 different species in planted gardens ranging from prehistoric plants such as cycads to cactus and succulents to roses to those indigenous to tropical rainforests.
