The spiritual questions of all cultures and all societies: that's the scope of Loyola University Museum of Art's explorations. And to pick the minds of some of the greatest thinkers of those populations, LUMA dives deep into art from throughout history, including collections centered on the Renaissance, medieval, and Baroque periods. Read on to learn a little more about LUMA.
Permanent Mainstay: The anchor of the museum is the Martin D'Arcy, S.J. Collection, a group of paintings, sculptures, furniture, and metalwork originating in 12th- to 19th-century Europe.
The Building: LUMA's 25,000-square-foot artistic sanctuary is located in the Lewis Towers, a 1926 Gothic Revival building located on the Magnificent Mile.
Tours: Public, 45-minute tours take place every day at noon and 2 p.m. except Sundays, and Mondays; while during holiday exhibitions the tours take place on Sundays. Leading each is a volunteer docent who has gone through a rigorous six-month training program.
