In today's world, people can no longer rely on court jesters to check meals for poison or retell Hamlet as a family comedy. Enjoy the versatility of more contemporary performers with today’s Groupon: for $19, you get VIP admission for one to an After-Dinnertainment show at the Lumber Baron Inn and Gardens (a $39.99 value). The VIP package includes:
- One ticket to "Ghost Hunt Paranormal Party," ReActors Improv Night, "Pop Kennedy's Burlesque Variety Show," Sleightly Impossible Magic Night, or Classic Rock House Party
- One glass of beer or wine
- A souvenir T-shirt, glass, or hat
- VIP seating at front tables
The Lumber Baron Inn and Gardens enlists an eclectic mix of performers to beguile crowds during After-Dinnertainment shows hosted in the historic bed-and-breakfast mansion. Two Wednesdays a month, audiences command what takes place onstage with suggestions shouted to a troupe led by veteran improviser Darrin Ray. Paranormal investigators will lead the "Ghost Hunt Paranormal Party" in October, revealing secrets from one of Colorado's most haunted mansions and discover the old man trying to chase kids off his land is really a specter in disguise. A team of Colorado's top magicians dazzles onlookers with sleights of hand on Thursday nights, and once a month, guests can enjoy a medley of comedy, juggling, and alluring burlesque routines at "Pop Kennedy's Burlesque Variety Show" or acoustic classics with Jim Mercado and Paul Glover during Classic Rock House Party. VIP attendees receive a glass of beer or wine to nurse during the show, as well as their choice of souvenir as a keepsake and as an alibi if accused of robbing a bank during the show.
Lumber Baron Mystery Mansion
Most people would agree that the Lumber Baron Inn looks like a mansion, but the significance of its cinnamon-colored exterior depends on whom you ask. The city of Denver would say that it's a historic landmark, Frommer's would add that it's a highly recommended bed-and-breakfast with four retro-posh suites, and its cast of actors would call it a stage for their talents.
Each weekend, their murder-mystery dinners entertain audiences with shows such as America's Got Murder! and Icing Bridezilla. Chef and innkeeper Julie Keller precedes each performance with a continually changing menu of eats; previous meals have included grilled chicken with pistachio sauce and sides of red-cabbage slaw and corn bread.
In addition to the murder-mystery dinners—which combine the Supreme Court's tradition of justice and chicken—Lumber Baron features an array of nightlife acts, including magicians, improv sketches, and movie screenings. Outside, the grounds' garden foliage wraps around events such as weddings and mixers.
