"Find what the land is saying and build traditions around that, listening the entire time to make sure what is said in the land is upheld in the cellar," Lusu Cellars founder David Teixeira says in his mission. This intent echoes the legend of Lusus, the winery's namesake and mythological companion of Bacchus, who traversed mountains, valleys, and coastlines to grow different wines.
David takes a similar approach, harvesting grapes from vineyards in various cities to produce a diverse collection of Heritage California and Rhone varietals. He adds as little as possible to the grapes to respect their terroir, using skills he gleaned from his family's history as Portuguese and Madeiran winemakers. David honors modern practices as well, sourcing only from dry-farmed and sustainable vineyards and never time-traveling to the past to steal grapes.
