Tapping allows humans access to resources vital for modern life, such as heating oil, natural gas, and massive underground ale deposits. Unleash a gusher with today's Groupon: for $12, you get $25 worth of brewery eats and drinks at MacTarnahan's Taproom.
One of the oldest craft breweries in Portland, MacTarnahan's Taproom provides parched patrons with more than 12 beers on tap and locally inspired brewhouse eats. The menu touts classic, hearty tavern fare, such as the oversized signature onion rings, dipped in Mac's homemade ale before frying to a crisp and served with beer-infused ketchup ($6), and the rotisserie roasted pulled-pork sandwich, with house-made ale barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, and tangy Jamaican slaw ($9). The hefeweizen-marinated beer-can chicken ($12) and ale-batter-dipped fish 'n' chips served with garlic-rosemary fries ($16) give diners more of the mouth-watering malt they came for. Pair any plates with a pint of MacTarnahan's house-brewed beer ($4.50), such as the signature standby MacTarnahan amber ale and the refreshing apricot ale with a wheat malt finish.
MacTarnahan's Taproom was awarded a gold medal for its amber ale at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival. Twenty-nine Yelpers give MacTarnahan's a 3.5-star average, six Citysearchers give it a perfect five-star average, and 85% of Urbanspooners like it.
