Madre Chocolate co-founders don't just see chocolate as a sweet treat. They see it as an integral part of the global ecosystem and community. With experience working in rural development and a Ph.D. in ethnobotany between them, they work directly with farmers and co-ops to create organic, fair trade bean-to-bar chocolates.
The chocolates are lightly processed so as to retain most of the antioxidants and other goodies cacao naturally possesses. They are also infused with fruits and spices inspired by the world's leading cacao-growing regions—Hawaii, the Caribbean, South America—to create delicacies such as the chipotle allspice bar and the hibiscus dark-chocolate bar. These chocolates have won several awards, including gold and silver medals at the International Chocolate Awards.
