We could have stayed all day and not seen everything. It was beautiful. I was happy that I could buy beer or wine and walk around with it. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking. I wish I had gone sooner, I have to go back and finish walking the whole thing. We walked about 6 miles and still saw maybe a tenth of everything.

Absolutely loved my visit. If you love nature walks and learning from history...this is a must see if you are visiting the area.

This was a beautiful place. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. We particularly loved the swamp walk and getting to see an alligator in its natural habitat, which was a first for us. The staff at the snack shack were very friendly. There is so much to do we need to go back, which we can If we show them our tickets. I am disappointed that the slave quarters and to see the interior of the house was an additional cost.

Very informative! We enjoyed the gardens. Just beautiful! Our favorite part of the day was the slavery to freedom tour. The tour guide Joe was exceptional!

Garden is very nice, not nearly as grand as it seems to be in pictures or maybe we just happened to be there in a low maintenance low bloom season. Swamp tour is need unless you are afraid of BIG spiders everywhere :) House tour was very one sided missing a lot of historical info seemed very selective of what was presented. House was nothing special. In hindsight I would not pay extra for the tour of the house. If you go to see the garden and that only its worth it the rest of it not so much. Overall nice garden stroll but nothing close to what we were expecting to see and experience about plantation history.

About Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

Since the 1670s, the Magnolia Plantation has sat on the lush land at the edge of a fresh water reservoir that is adjacent to the river. Founded by the Drayton family, who had then recently immigrated from Barbados, the plantation has seen generations of Draytons come and go. They've also seen hundreds of springs, heralded by colorful azalea blooms, and hundreds of winters, marked by blooming camellias and trees with draping spanish moss.

Today, visitors to the grounds can immerse themselves in this history as well as in the 60 acres of lush gardens. The past comes to life during the award-winning "From Slavery to Freedom" tour. Visitors can also tour the plantation's gorgeous house, or drink in views of the gardens—either on foot, or on a boat cruise that winds down the Ashley River.
