Casual, relax and friendly.

I recently had occasion to visit Maison Kabob in Gatineau with a Groupon. This is a small, rather out-of-the-way Mediterranean restaurant that is well worth the trip! It is a “counter” restaurant/take-away with just a few informal seats for those who wish to dive into their meal immediately. We tried the Kabab and Kafta plates which were outstanding. Both were so good I would have trouble choosing between them next time. When we arrived Mohamed, the owner was very gracious and happily walked us through our choices and took the time to explain everything in detail. Although he was nearly closing, he didn’t rush us and prepared us most delicious meals. Everything here is homemade – even his custom spice blends. He allowed me to smell the blends to assist me in my choices. I have eaten a fair amount of Mediterranean food in my time and this is right up there with the best. Combined with the owner’s wonderful hospitality, this is a place not to miss. The food is simple, well-prepared and yes, the charcoal does make a real difference! The portions are sizeable making for very good value indeed. On our platters we also enjoyed the wonderfully spiced potatoes, fragrant rice, hommus and garlic sauce. I cannot fault any part of this meal as each element was just so tasty and well prepared. Do yourself a favour and try this place. You won’t regret it.
