Ring the doorbell of your inner child and politely ask if it can come out to play. Today’s deal sends you on a crafty trip down childhood lane: for $20, you get $40 toward a pottery-painting visit to Make. Your Groupon is location-specific, so choose one of the three stores with the links above. These cozy abodes of imagination stimulation are great places for kids and adults alike, just like ball pits that serve White Russians. Bring the kids in during weekdays for a creative session of youthful expression, or gather a group of friends for adult-themed weekend fun complete with red wine (served Thurs.–Sat., 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.) or BYOB at the Upper East and West Side locations. Packs of women, single ladies, and female prop comics receive 50% off everything on Thursday ladies’ nights.

A day paint pass is $12 per adult and $6 for children under three. It covers all the painting, glazing, firing, and time you need to whip up your next homemade mantle piece or ape-skull-shaped pencil holder. Enthusiastic enthusiasts can take advantage of the annual membership ($36), which includes unlimited weekday visits, members-only offers and events, and specialty glazes and puffy paint (which are not included in the day pass) at any Make location for an entire year. The cost of the bare-canvassed pottery is not included in the day pass or annual pass. Pieces include anything from plates and cups to piggy banks and tyrannosaurus rex statues that are begging to be your next Thanksgiving centerpiece (prices range between $7 and $160).

Shipping is required at Midtown location inside FAO Schwarz and is an additional $5.

New York magazine featured Make in its listings, five Google maps reviews give the Upper West Side location mostly five stars, and seven Yelpers give the Upper East Side location four: > * My beer stein came out awesome. All of my friends are jealous, and I use it all the time. Its a BYOB and PYOP, bring your own beverage and paint your own pottery. What a combination! – timbolt, Citysearch > * You get to choose whatever type of ceramic you want and let your creativity flow by decorating it however you want. It’s not the cheapest thing to do in the world, but I had tons of fun. – xtiffysweetzx, Citysearch > * I definitely recommend this place for other nannies and parents because it’s fun for all ages. The staff is really great too; very helpful. Check it out. You’ve definitely got nothing to lose, and you can gain a really great place to go be creative. – Mary S., Insider Pages

Make Meaning

"This is a candy shop for creativity," Make Meaning's CEO, Dan Nissanoff, told New York Family. The crafting hotspot, named the Best Crafting Hub by New York Magazine, boasts a dizzying range of activities. Inside the brightly lit confines, youngsters and adults can make candles, jewelry, and soap. They can also paint ceramic pieces, create paintings on canvas, and decorate cakes.

The inspiration behind the business? The connections that Nissanoff made with his family when they worked on craft projects together. In order to offer that up to other families, he created Make Meaning, where he and his staff lead guests through craft projects, organize special events from corporate gatherings to birthday parties, and encourage inventiveness and fun.

There is a small but good selection of items to paint. I really enjoyed this. Bring a hard copy of your groupon
