$139 for a Winemaking Course with Take-Home Wine ($300 Value)
Over the course of nine months, students create their own wines using fresh grapes harvested from Californian vineyards. Students can choose to make one of the following wines: old vine zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, and bordeaux style. The four-class series begins in late September, when participants gather to begin the four-step process using the winery’s equipment. At the end of the nine months, students reap the fruits of their labor, hauling home a case of 12 bottles of handmade wine to pair with dinners or the neighbor’s new white carpet. Couples may attend classes together at no extra cost, though only one person can directly participate in winemaking. Or for an additional $50 fee, both attendees may join in the winemaking sessions.
First Press Olive Oil Co.
First Press Olive Oil Co. made its name researching olive oils the world over, basing its selection of carefully-crafted flavors on the season. The Meyer Lemon EVOO compliments warm summer days while their balsamic vinegars imported from Modena, Italy offer summer flavors of cucumber melon, apricot, raspberry, and strawberry peach. When temperatures die down, fall flavors will feature walnut, pumpkin, and cranberry.
