Dance has the power to rally troops, end droughts, and scare away bears that giggle at the fetal position. Today's Groupon harnesses the power of the human body with a full month of unlimited adult dance classes at Malashock Dance for $39, a $140 value. Each week features 10 different classes for adult dancers of all experience levels, from modern dance to Pilates to calorie-burning dance workouts designed to make the body as able an instrument as a five-reed wind pipe.
Before dancing entered the mainstream, proms and homecomings were nothing more than public juice gatherings where uncomfortable standing-in-place was punctuated by red punch moustaches. Malashock Dance has been celebrating the intrigue of rhythmic movement for 22 years as its extraordinary dancers and choreographers educate and inspire anyone with a pulse in their dance-marrow. Amateurs and expert movers alike can try a variety of adult technique classes scheduled throughout the week. Learn new ways to move and communicate through your body-chords with beginner and intermediate Modern Technique classes on Mondays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., or infuse dance movements with technical core work, stretches, and breath in Pilates Flow sessions Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Classes range from evening hours to morning sessions, including the self-expressive mid-morning Modern Technique class from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays.
Inviting dance into your weekly routine helps to keep the mind and body actively in use, encouraging more alert thinking and fostering a newfound ebullient energy. New dancers will reach an understanding of physical expression that can't be learned from a night of one-player, blindfolded horseshoes.
