Mangia Pizza & Pasta Co.
Amo and Rose Scotese began a family legacy when they founded their first trattoria-style Italian restaurant in 1936. The couple's grandson, Emilio Dacoba, continues to carry on that tradition by working with family members to run that eatery while also operating Mangia Pizza & Pasta Co. on the side. Rather than stray too far from his family's original methods, Emilio still uses a number of his grandmother's recipes throughout Mangia's menu, creating a selection of hearty Italian and American dishes suitable for casual, family-style dining.
These time-honored recipes are most prevalent in the pasta dishes, which feature Nonna Rosa's signature red sauce spooned atop platefuls of spaghetti, linguine, and lasagna. A selection of 18 different toppings blanket pizzas, including everything from gorgonzola and mushrooms to roasted chicken and garlic. Dishes such as chicken parmesan, char-grilled pork chops, and meatball subs help round out the menu of familiar comfort foods.
In keeping with the family's Italian heritage, Mangia Pizza & Pasta Co.'s dining area feels more like a piazza than a restaurant. Brickwork arches provide privacy for the booths that line the walls, and well-spaced tables dot the center of the room—red and white-checkered linens draped over every table. On most Thursday evenings, the restaurant encourages diners to enjoy musical performances by live bands or laptops set to play "Happy Birthday" in every single language.
