Combining Hebrew text with the Christian choral tradition, Leonard Bernstein's beguiling Chichester Psalms is a jazzy, contemporary, overtly Jewish and utterly absorbing choral masterpiece. Bernstein himself called it "the most accessible, B-flat majorish tonal piece I've ever written," which is saying a lot coming from the guy who wrote the music for West Side Story. Masterworks Festival Chorus and soloists, along with New York City Chamber Orchestra, perform this life-affirming piece at New York's Carnegie Hall, in a concert that also includes Trinity Te Deum by the world-renowned Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds as well as select works by National Festival Chorus, Capital University Chapel Choir and North Central University Chorale.
The concert will be 2 hours and 30 minutes with one 20 minute intermission.
