The first time we offered a Groupon to Manny's Coffee Shop & Deli, we sold out of 500 within an hour. Get in early on today's corned beef gold rush. For $11, you'll get $22 worth of plentiful, savory dinner dishes at Manny's. Finally fill the bottomless pit of your hungry history professor's belly or treat your ravenous nephew to a mouthwatering meal even he can't finish (and then punish him for being a quitter). Your Groupon is valid for dinner, served from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Plus, Groupon customers will receive a $5 coupon to use on their next dinner at Manny's.

An Obama favorite, Manny's is a 67-year-old, family-run, cafeteria-style Jewish deli. The delicious, affordable delicatessen foods at Manny’s are a well-known phenomenon. Most notably, their corned beef sandwich is renowned as one of the best in town, probably because it's "stuffed with more juicy meat than its two slices of rye can actually handle" according to the meat-seers at Metromix. Because your Groupon is only valid for dinner at Manny's, you get the perfect excuse to cut out the rye bread altogether with a heaping plate of corned beef and cabbage ($13.95) that won't hurt your jaw as you attempt to eat it as a sandwich or mar your intestines with unnecessary bread, rightly kept at the bottom by food-pyramid scientists.

Manny's is known for its corn beef and pastrami ($10.95), but for those with a beef against corned beef, Manny's offers a menu of hot entrees, such as turkey meatloaf ($9.95), baked salmon ($13.95), whitefish ($11.95), short ribs ($13.95), and chicken in the pot ($12.95). Pile on boiled or mashed potatoes ($1.95), or add some color to your plate palette with carrots and green beans ($1.95).

You've been to the Sears Tower, the lakefront, the Puppet Bike, and the Michigan Avenue, but have you been to Manny's? Stay true to Chicago. Get your Groupon.

Reviews

Zagat calls Manny's food "true Chicago", and Chicago magazine picks Manny's for best pastrami. Critics from Time Out and Centerstage Chicago praise the authentic offerings; InsiderPages users give it five stars and Yelpers give it 4.5:

  • Meat. Some of us refuse to eat it, and some of us can't wait to stuff loads of it into our salivating mouths, Homer Simpson-style. If you fall into the latter category, Manny's is worth checking out at least once. – Nola Akiwowo, Centerstage Chicago
  • Chicago's most quintessential restaurant is not a steakhouse or a laboratorylike kitchen putting out cutting-edge cuisine. It's a cafeteria. – Time Out Chicago
  • Great nyc style deli in Chicago...The pickles are right up there with any place in NYC! A must! – brian s., InsiderPages

Politi-Celeb-ryday People

Manny's Deli has been serving Chicago celebs, politicians and hardworking everyday folks since 1942, so don't be surprised if you run into some combination of the above when you're turning your Groupon into a heap of corned beef. However, some celebs (unfairly) look and act like normal people and some politicians think they're celebs. How will you be able to tell the difference?

If the person you're speaking with is wearing oversized glasses, carrying a teacup poodle in a small garment bag, and has dietary restrictions that give her the appearance of an incognito gibbon: Celeb.

If the person you're speaking to mentions that they're putting in double-shifts at the horse-gelatin factory to put their somewhat advanced baby through Baby College, and gosh it's expensive, but would you like to see some pictures of her? Regular Person.

If the person you're speaking to shakes your hand warmly and firmly and looks directly into your eyes, revealing an underlying hollowness that no amount of money or power can fill, an abyss of writhing anti-geometry growing and contracting with mindless organic abandon in a soulless shadow-dimension clawing at the door of our own dreams: Politician. Here, have a bumper sticker!

About Manny's Coffee Shop & Deli

More than 50 years on, Manny's Cafeteria and Delicatessen remains a family affair for the Raskins. The restaurant is now in the hands of the third and fourth generation of the family, whose members work to maintain their tradition of crafting homestyle Jewish-American dishes. Within a classic cafeteria setting decorated with news clippings, photos, and thumb-wrestling second graders, chefs draw from practiced recipes for matzo-ball soup, housemade chocolate phosphates, and chewy latke. The sandwiches, which were lauded by Time Out Chicago, include Manny's famous corned beef, made with a hulking three-quarter-pound pile of juicy brisket, as well as other signature sandwiches. As if that weren't incentive enough, Manny's offers free parking behind the restaurant.
